PlayFitt is a gamified fitness app designed to make daily physical activity engaging and fun. It tracks movements like steps, stairs climbed, squats, push-ups, and other exercises through a smartphone's sensors. Users are rewarded for completing daily and weekly movement goals, earning coins that can be redeemed for power-ups or rewards from brands like Amazon and Starbucks. This system encourages consistency and motivation while helping users improve their overall fitness.
The app offers features like automatic rep counting, progress tracking, and adaptive goals powered by machine learning. It includes social elements like leaderboards to foster friendly competition and integrates seamlessly with devices such as Apple Watch and HealthKit. By combining bite-sized tasks and rewards, PlayFitt promotes an active lifestyle and counters sedentary behavior.
My contribution
When I joined Intellisports, the team consisted of just three members, and I establish the design team from scratch. This involved building a comprehensive design system and creating all the app's design patterns. As with many small startups, we underwent several rebranding and reskinning phases to better cater to our users' evolving needs, ensuring the product aligned with market expectations and user feedback.
I crafted the mobile app’s core experience using agile methodology and led a product rebrand to align with critical KPIs. My contributions extended beyond the app; I designed App Store assets, user-facing visuals, advertisements, and presentation decks, including those for the CEO’s pitches in Silicon Valley. I played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s visual identity and user experience.
In addition to design work, I was deeply involved in management tasks. I participated in leadership meetings, conducted market research, and created Pivotal tickets for developers. I led feature brainstorms and design reviews, collaborating closely with the product manager and CEO on key decisions. Working with consultants across three time zones and coordinating with product and marketing teams sharpened my communication and organizational skills, enabling me to contribute strategically to both the product and the company’s growth.
PlayFitt underwent a reskin to better align with updated marketing strategies and target demographics. The redesign aimed to refresh the app's look and feel, ensuring it resonated more effectively with its intended audience. By adjusting visual elements, branding, and user experience, the new interface enhanced engagement while staying true to the app’s core mission of promoting daily movement through gamification. This update was also an opportunity to optimize its appeal to potential users and strengthen the brand's market positioning.
